Worship service “Su üle Jumal valvaku”

The opening worship service for the Tartu Song and Dance Celebration week takes place at St. Mary’s Church.

Even back in 1869, when the very first Song Celebration took place in Tartu, more than 15,000 people attended the church service on Toomemägi. In 2019, we brought that lovely tradition back for the jubilee celebrations. As the smallest tower bell of St. Mary’s Church is named ‘Joy,’ we are delighted to hold this time the ecumenical worship service for the song celebration right in the church.

At the worship service, performances will be given by Väägvere brass band, Anima mixed choir from Hugo Treffner Gymnasium, joint choir of Tartu congregations, and the vocal ensemble Eluallikas.

The event is free for everyone!

The worship service “Su üle Jumal valvaku” is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 side programme.
